Check out the awesome glass sponge garden we saw this morning….. just before we pushed our ROV beyond its limits ☹️☹️☹️☹️🤣🤣 New year I’m going to start a new project on glass sponges, just need some funding…..! This week we have been hosted by @gypsea_mel from @seakeepers onboard the super yacht Nyla and have been exploring the deep reefs of the Aldermen and Major Island regions. This work is part of two projects, the first to help with the baseline monitoring for the new high protection areas

And how important sponges are to different species in terms of habitat and food. #spo

Sponge of these Cliona celata at Lough Hyne are likely over 100 years old, with researchers observing the same sponge for over sixty years. This species is a focus of our restoration efforts at Lough Hyne and hopefully some of our fragments will grow into these large sponges one day to replace the sponges that have been lost in some parts of the Lough. #spongeecologygroup #sponge #loughhyne #ireland #restoration #yellow @vicuniwgtn_stem Shot with @sonyalpha and @nauticamhousings and lite with @f
